Flights returned before reaching destination

What is the FF points and status credits situation on flights that return to originating airport due to faults/bad weather? e.g a QF MEL-ADL today, airborne for 1 hour, unable to land ADL due to bad weather, returns MEL and PAX put on a later flight. Are FF points and status credits given on both flights?

You only completed one flight therefore you only receive points and status credits for one flight.

Welcome to AFF Cracked Actor (Bowie fan?) . I haven't read the T&C's - it'd be nice but I'd be very surprised if you got points and SC's for both, even though you've taken off/landed twice and spent a lot of time in the air.

If you were put onto a different flight number, then ime, points for both flights ( quite correctly ) will credit
If the flight returns and the same flight then continues onto the destination then only 1 set of points

( the terms do state that 10SCs are due for flights of 0 to 500 miles, so MEL-MEL should earn 10 SCs )

That was not the case for me when a PER-BNE flight was turned around 45 minutes into the flight. I was then booked onto the next flight (6 hours later :evil::evil which had a new flight number and only received points/SC for the latter flight.

Did you try claiming missing points for the first flight? Presumably you have 2 BPs with 2 different flight numbers.

I did, and was rejected by QFF.

Then you should point them to their own terms and conditions. Clearly a PER-PER flight is 0 miles, and their table clearly says that for flights from 0 to 600 miles each a minimum of 10SC (20 for K, H, B and Y fares) and a minimum of 1000 FF points.

So unless they can show how it was an ineligible flight, they owe you

I did mention that.. but they wouldn't budge! Not to worry, was too long ago to even bother about now.

I have heard of people getting double crediting for cancelled (but boarded) flights. However, I have a feeling that Qantas won't automatically credit the same sector twice in a day (eg BNE-SYD) - so it would have to be an overnight reschedule before an automatic post would occur.

In hindsight it ended up being a next day departure (as the flight was delayed, to add to the original delay of being put on a later flight!!) although the original departure time was 23:30. Certainly wasn't very happy that my J flight was now an overnighter (sleep) flight rather than an evening flight where the service could be enjoyed. But what can you do...:!:
