Hi,

I am looking to fly in March 2015 from Perth to Vienna and then onto Cape Town before heading back to Perth. I am able to book the Perth Vienna part of the journey via the Qantas website and earn points etc but trying to book the journey to Cape Town is proving a bit of problem. I am able to book direct with Emirates Perth - Dubai - Vienna - Dubai - Cape Town - Dubai - Perth, but by going this route I end up forfeiting status credits etc with Qantas. Any suggestions?

What about Qatar Airways (QR) who are a One World member?

I would check the cost on a site like ZUJI: Your Leading Online Travel Agent. Cheap Flights, Hotels & Holidays. (using the multi-city tool) but maybe check the QR website also.

It's probably worth doing a comparison by checking the QR flights ex SIN via DOH to VIE & CPT then look at a cheap fare on Cheap flights | Jetstar for PER/SIN/PER as they might have some specials which you can then add the plus bundle to in order to earn QF ff points & SC.

Might be worth ringing a couple of TA's also just to compare costs seeing as though it's not just a simple return to CPT or VIE but one that includes both destinations.

Good luck & let us know what transpires.

While I suspect that Qatar fares will be "reasonable", remember that there are OneWorld circle fares that will cover this route. And starting from outside of Australia on these will likely be cost effective.

Another alternative is an open jaw on CX (xx_-HKG-VIE or nearby)/CPT-JNB-HKG-xx_) with a one way VIE-CPT.

Happy wandering

Which class of travel?

Remember with QR it is fairer and simpler as you will earn a lot less status credits and points than flying on QF codes.

However, on QF, do they even codeshare on the CPT services? An alternative may be purchase a QF fare to VIE, with stopover in DXB and purchase a separate fare on EK (or even QR) return from DXB to CPT, during that DXB stopover.

Does EK earn less or more than another OW carrier such as QR? This simple stuff is hard.

Less SCs (0) but more points than QR. if doing QF code to Europe and then EK DXB-CPT then would probably earn marginally more SCs on QR but much less points on QR.

Thanks for the responses thy have been helpful. I am flying business class. The cheapest flights are with QR who are currently having a "sale". QF via DXB and then an EK flight DXB CPT DXB the fares are not even close to QR. Booking all of the flights with EK are still $4k more expensive than QR! So sacrifice the points for the $$ savings.
