Hi,
I have booked a flight with Lufthansa from Sydney to Munchen. Has anyone flown them before and what was your experience like? Its a codeshare flight operated by singapore airlines sydney to singapore and then lufthansa to munchen from singapore.

Cheers

Class of travel ?

Munchen (where are those umlauts in the keyboard - München, aaah that's better) is actually Munich (MUC). This is actually one of my favourite cities and airport - goes back to my study of German at school and meeting a friend on a Contiki tour who was from Munich.

Can't help with the question as never flown either carrier long haul (or on the sectors mentioned) and my flights on both are waaay too long ago.

As a bit of additional information, a great resource is the Munich Airport webpage

I think you might mean the opposite Munich is actually Munchen. I just need a german keyboard so I can write it correctly.

 If the SYD-SIN flight is on the A380.. and you make sure of one of the better upper deck seats then that segment will be quite enjoyable...

I can't speak for Y on LH... but I have heard from usually reliable sources that it isn't great....Sorry!

(And YMMV of course!)

Its supposed to be the 380 on the leg from sydney to singapore, not the way back though. There is 7 months for them to change it however.

I dont want to alarm you but i avoid LH in Y as much as i can... its our company prefered airline.
You may well have no AVOD/Entertainment, some planes do some dont.

So plan your own entertainment or sleep !

On the plus side you should have an A380 to SIN :) and that will be nice.

They have now fitted all Airbus 340-600 planes with Entertainment. It was the cheapest flight I could get at the time.

Y in LH is very basic and every plane of theirs I have been on is packed totally. I remember being on a Y flight and asking a hostess for water and she said that she wasn't on duty (presumably at that moment in time) and that I would have to ask another one!

Its all part of offering an efficient and punctual service ;-) If the hostess had to go get one, she would have to have a longer break and then wouldnt be able to change at the correct time.

I'm off to a city about 1 1/2 hours from Munich Airport for work. Rather than flying in Munich, we decided to just fly into Frankfurt, since more options and SQ fly there directly. Doesn't help that the airport is north-east of Munich and we're going south-west.

From the sounds of it, it seems like the better choice. NB, SQ operate 744s and 777-300ERs to Frankfurt.

Cost was about the same (on SQ or LH) and we get to make good use of the Autobahn. :)

If your booking class is eligible, make sure to credit your miles to BMI (for best value redemptions in *A) or Asiana (easiest *A Gold, for lounge).

Flew Singapore/Jakarta in early October on Lufthansa, it was the end of the run from Frankfurt. Flight was 3 hours late leaving departing Singapore
(no big deal). Inflight service and entertainment sucked. Meal was a cough snack, asked for a beer then a wine, none had been loaded was the reply.
Mickey Mouse cartoon was the entertainment. Not bad for a SGD $124 flight.

Obviously you just got the rough end of the pineapple.

I'm flying LHR-FRA-BLR-FRA-LAX in C class next year, and I don't expect to get such treatment.

:)

LH is well known for it F, not sure about C/J so much, the guys here at work prefer SQ when they can.
I have met some pretty nice LH crews (on the ground) so cant be all that bad, still its not often i fly LH. If i do its mostly European flights which i think if you get one of there nice new A320's are rather comfortable, and the sandwitches that are usually served are nice (compared to say BA food on the same routes)

U guess the most important thing is that they are reliable and safe.

Have flown Y from Sweden to Frankfurt - A320 - nice new plane, decore was nice, I had a bulkhead and was impressed that the tray table was mounted on the bulkhead - awesome amount of room with no recline issues - great for the lappy!

Service was OK from memory, however, I'm not a high maintenance passenger and I just took what was offered - cant comment on the "on demand" service...

Mr!
