Tried looking around the forum and Velocity website, nothing, I'm sure though someone could answer this question in two seconds...
Looking at upgrading my Flexi fares to Business (J), just wondering with the current promotion they have earning status credits on reward flights, would my flight upgrades also receive the credits on J class rather than just if on the Flexi fare?

Cheers

Both the points upgrades and use of the comp upgrades gets you the bonus SCs

The T&C state that you should only earn at the original paid fare ( ie Flexi SC) however it appears most people have got lucky and received business SC when upgraded.

Who knows when the “ luck” will run out …….

Actually they don't state that at all, the only reference is to the class of travel (being "reward seat fare class"). There is no reference as to how the PAX gets to the fare class.

they are here: Earn Status Credits on Reward Seats Terms and Conditions| Velocity Frequent Flyer

Travel Z class fare will earn Business SC's, P will earn Premium Economy SC's and X will earn Discount economy SC's. How one gets to P/Z class is irrelevant..

Point are earned as per the original fare. If an award then 0 points, if an upgraded Flexi/Premium fare then points are earned on the Flexi/Premium.

I can confirm with certainty that you DO NOT get Business class SC.
I upgraded with a Platinum bonus upgrade and got usual Flexi Y SC. - This was confirmed by VFF as what should happen.
If someone else has got J SC, I suggest they zip it and enjoy the error :)

The OP was asking if he receives J SC for a upgraded flight

from the T& C - 18.1.5 Members will earn Status Credits and Points based on the original fare class booked for flights where an Upgrade Using Points has been redeemed.

As you said you used a Platinum bonus upgrade not a points reward upgrade. I assume there is a big difference.

Like Sefty said, if your upgrade falls into Z class then you do get the SCs for J.....I know of a bunch of people who its happened to...

Those are not the T&C's of the "current promotion" the OP referred to.

What class was showing on your BP? (Was this an ODU?)

The terms and conditions of the promotion state that all Z class tickets starting with the ticker number 795* will earn business class status credits until 30 june. As almost ALL business reward ticket and business upgrade ticket meet these terms and conditions, they SHOULD be eligible for the bonus status credits as per the promotion T+C's.

Velocity figured this out some time ago and started using the 18.1.5 clause in the standard T+C's which states that upgraded tickets will earn at the original class. Personally, Velocity tried to do this for me however I stood my ground stating very clearly that I was eligible under the promotion terms and conditions.

I was awarded the status credits after the case was reviewed by a Velocity manager.

As should have happened.

It is a legalism that when a company's T&C's conflict in such circumstances, those being the more beneficial to the customer would apply.

[h=3]Terms and Conditions[/h] *To be eligible for this offer, you must book and travel on a Virgin Australia (VA) marketed and operated flight in a Reward Seat Fare Class (X, P or Z) between 13 January and 30 June 2013, and all flights must be booked and ticketed directly by Velocity Frequent Flyer (featuring a ticket number beginning with "795"). J class was the ticket class. And ODU, not raising an issue, as it has been discussed elsewhere, just providing insight as to what to expect from Virgin (this month anyway)

Why does it matter HOW I upgrade? An upgrade is an upgrade.

Well I feel shafted again. Thanks :)

So let me get this right, if your J class upgrade is a J class ticket you get economy SC, if its Z class, you get J class SC, even though you are travelling Z class, not J class
Well I think its plain dumb.
