Problems with the navigation equipment on QF693 today.

The plane was about to move onto runway after a few minutes taxing when we stopped due to equipment failure (was later informed navigation equipment failure). We waited a while then eventually taxied back to gate.

After waiting 40 minutes plus near the gate Captain announced they will replace plane and that control in Sydney is working on the replacement options and we need to stay on plane until everything worked out.

Okay just announced replacement plane found and we will disembark and go to Gate 4 where a landing plane which wasn't going to be used again today will be used for this flight.

New departure time is 6.25 pm, original 4.45 pm. But I don't see them taking off at that time given they have to refuel, move bags and load meals etc. Sunday fun.

Better the problem be on the ground then in the air.

Got to gate 4 and new plane just arrived as well. Lots of people getting off right now.

Fascinating watching how QF handle the situation. No one is complaining so far.

Wonder if they have to rescan boarding passes. Better get the phone pass loaded again :)

You will have to re-scan your boarding pass. Also they can turn around an aircraft, from the time it has got to the gate to door shut in around 30 minutes.

Yep rescanned boarding passes. I'm sitting in an exit row seat, let's see if I get the exit row instructions again.

We started boarding at 6.15 pm, have to say going smoothly.

Good to hear the MEL side. I am on the rtn leg 694 back to MEL. Looks like I am now spending a couple more hours in the QP than planned.

Only complaints I heard are from people on the other side of phones calls people are making to ADL:

"I don't know what to tell you but I'm glad it happened on the ground"

And

"No mum I know flight tracker says we are half way to Adelaide but I'm standing at the gate, we will be late. Flight tracker is wrong".
LOL loved how her mum trusted flight tracker more than her daughter who was calling from the ground.

Okay we got the exit row evacuation speech again which started with an apology for doing this again but if CASA staff onboard and we don't do we will be fined. Fastest ever speech, maybe 25 seconds and barely looked for our consent to assist :)

Okay ADL you better be worth wasting a Sunday afternoon.

Touch down in Adelaide at 7.24 pm approximately 1 hour 50 minutes late.

I actually thought QF did a good job, people informed, safely first approach, new plane organised quickly. As long as all bags made it (I saw them getting loaded) I'd say a good recovery on a Sunday.

OT: just imagine if they suddenly if the only plane they could find was a 330.
Now that would be a dream, in my case, (of course in reality, the likeliness of them doing is as rare as a hens teeth), but still, that would my greatest dream, if something like this were to happen to me.
Adelaide in my POV is nothing to crow about, really!
Why do you think I keep flying off to NZ?

You'd reckon the pilot would know how to get from ADL to MEL without Nav..

Sometimes, the pilot or 2ic might have to change route mid way, either on a way point, or as an emergency.
Sometime last year, maybe a it was Dec 15, ADL had a very bad Dec storm, it was on my flight from MEL - ADL.
We did a north take over MEL, did the usual turn, then somewhere past the SA/Vic border, the plane did a turn out over the Fleurieu Peninsula, it did a turn, and did a diretional turn back towards MEL!
At least during that trip, I got to sea Kangaroo Island as the plane flew over Victor Harbor and then out over the coast over Glenelg towards ADL.
Usually, if the flight was over Lake Alexandrina, it would keep more on the Coorong side.
But this time, after the 20 mins flight back towards MEL, it flew more so over Victor.
It was a 737, but great flight.

Describing it as a nav system in a PA doesn't really narrow it down at all. There are numerous systems on an aircraft that you'd use that term for when speaking to the public. Just to give you an idea...it could refer to...one of the screens in front of each pilot which displays navigation information (amongst other things), an IRU (inertial reference unit), a CDU (command display unit...the interface to the FMC), an FMC (flight management computer), an ADC (air data computer), and so on.

Yeah the only said Nav system, tried a reboot and then said we need a new part. Not sure that narrows it down.
