Saw this being talked about on another site:

.:Flight Experience:.

Basically it's a franchised Flight Simulator "shop"/attraction. There's one in Sydney and one in Melbourne as well as ones over in NZ. Plans to add more in other places including Brisbane.

Packages seem to start around $135 and go up to $355 in Australia.
(It appears that the NZ ones are much cheaper based on conversion rates!)

Anyone been? Any comments on them? Wouldn't mind giving it a bit of a go... Any other public 737-800 simulators in Australia to compare with? (I know Virgin has one in Brisbane - but I don't think that's public)

I don't think it has the hydraulics, because 'Simulator Features' state "FNPTII/FAA Level 4/ MCC Trainer/ MPL Level 2" - sounds more like a fixed base than a full flight sim to me. But I stand to be corrected.

Yeah, from their FAQ:

Does the simulator have motion?
No, it is a fixed base trainer. However the fidelity of the outside view visuals gives you a very good sense of motion

It was featured on Getaway a few weeks back.

Looks great, but i think given its fixed base i'll save my dollars and try out the LH 744 simulator in Frankfurt next time im there which I believe has full motion.

Having said that, if they can guarantee that Natalie Gruzlewski from Getaway will be sitting next to me in the co-pilots seat, i'll still give it a go!

Ok, so if we choose to ignore this one, and instead go to a hydraulic base simulator - where do we go?

I remember Virgin auctioned off a seat on their 738NG simulator a couple of years ago for ~$1000. Cathay has rewards that allow you to visit their simulator (I think...not entirely sure), but they aren't cheap points wise.

In particular, I'd love to hae a "flight" in a 747. Any suggestions (worldwide is ok) as to where to go?

i've got no experience with that one ... it looks fun

i have been in the F1 11 sim at Amberley. that kicks butt.

On a Lufthansa flight a few months ago I spotted something in their onboard shopping catalogue with an option to use their B747 simulator in Frankfurt or Munich...I ripped it out, i'll dig around and see if I can locate it.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

there's a game called Microsoft Flight Simulator :D and you can fly all types of planes on your home computer OR even on your laptop in-flight. The game sells for around $60 & you could fly all you want, and the graphics are suppose to be VERY real-life too!

But bad news is, there is no hydraulics, g-forces to make the experience more realistic!

When Ansett had a simulator training centre in Melbourne, one of my friends was a tech for their equipment.

It was a while ago, and I cant remember what plane it was simulating, but I do remember that it was sensational.

I've seen this also on one of the tv shows. Looks great and the price isn't bad I think for the experience and fun of it.
