Has anyone asked or succeeded in getting a QF flight credit extension? Mine, that I received on 31 Dec, must be used to book a flight by 3 Feb. I'm aware I could book just any old flight then change that later to a flight I actually want, but I'd prefer not to go that way, for several reasons.
If anyone has managed to get an extension, I'd be very grateful for info on how you went about it, tips on how to get a good outcome.
Many thanks in advance.

By 3 Feb 2021? That doesn't sound right. Is the credit held with Qantas directly or a third party/travel agent?

Any existing, unused Flight Credits issued after 31 January 2019 originally booked for travel until 31 March 2021 are valid for bookings and travel until 31 December 2022.

Held with QF. From the email, direct copy/paste:

Flight credit valid until03 February 2021

So, yeah, I understand that I only need to book by that date, but still not really ideal.

Can you give some context around the credit, such as:
  • What date was the original flight scheduled to operate?
  • What date was it cancelled?
  • Was the cancellation voluntary or involuntary?
  • Did you opt to receive a flight credit instead of a refund? (for example, did you accept an offer for 110% value travel credit or extra status credits?)
I understood flight credits validity (both 'book by' and 'travel by') to have been extended to 31 Dec 2022 in almost all scenarios, and a credit expiring 3 Feb 2021 certainly seems unreasonable. You might even be entitled to a refund, depending on your answers to the above questions.

This page is also worth a read and spells out the standard Dec 2022 validity for credits.

Thanks for your help, sudoer:
  • What date was the original flight scheduled to operate?
    • SYD-OOL 11/12/20
  • What date was it cancelled?
    • 4/11/20
  • Was the cancellation voluntary or involuntary?
    • "Voluntary" in the sense that I don't think the flight itself was cancelled, or at least was not at the time we cancelled.
  • Did you opt to receive a flight credit instead of a refund? (for example, did you accept an offer for 110% value travel credit or extra status credits?)
    • Was not given a choice.
I've just clicked through from the email to the 'Redeem your flight credit' page and weirdly, it says my credit cannot be used online, and that I must call. It also says this:

Your Flight Credit

As this is a partially flown flight credit please contact us to redeem.

Not exactly sure what the phrase "partially flown flight" means, but this was NOT for one segment or flight on a multi-segment/flight ticket. This was simply a stand-alone one-way, one-flight ticket. So maybe it has somehow been miscategorised, which might have something to do with the early expiry date....

Do you have the fare rules available for the fare that was purchased?

Did you pay for the booking using another flight credit, gift voucher, or similar?

1. No, sorry, but pretty sure it was a standard economy Red-E ticket. Can't see a Fare Class on the original E-Ticket.

2. No.

Best bet is to call Qantas and ask why the expiry is Feb 2021 instead of Dec 2022. This page is quite clear:

Changes to domestic Australian and trans-Tasman travel plans

Flights on or before 31 March 2021

If you're due to travel on a Qantas flight and wish to change your plans, you can cancel your booking and retain the full value as a flight credit.
  • Request your Flight Credit before your scheduled date of departure.
  • Then book and travel by 31 December 2022.
  • When you’re ready to rebook, you’ll need to cover any change fee and any fare increase in your new booking, if applicable.
Plus, if your original booking was made before 31 December 2020 for travel on a Qantas flight between 31 January 2020 and 31 March 2021, you're eligible to use your flight credit for multiple bookings. Just book your Qantas flights and ensure all travel is completed before 31 December 2022. If you don’t use the full value of your Flight Credit in one transaction, we’ll issue you a new Flight Credit with the same expiry date.

Thanks. I submitted an enquiry online. Will certainly follow up with a phone call if don't hear back soon. Just hoping to avoid the 2+ hours of on-hold... :)
