Just wondering of anyone's surprise better outcomes from flight changes.

Today I got an email from Westjet saying my Flight from YVR-NRT via YYC had to be changed.
they gave me 3 options:
Accept the new route
Change for $0 fee to a new route
Full Refund

I wasn't happy with the new route as it only gave me a 45min buffer at Calgary which I didn't want as I've got kids in tow.
so I checked the new route options and one of them was a direct flight with JAL that was jsut over $2200 more expensive if I was to book it with JAL

So needless to say I jumped on it! I wanted a direct flight anyway but couldn't afford it. Very happy! but hope there's no more changes - as the flight is 6 months away.

On a business oneworld Explorer fare circa eight years ago, I was originally ticketed HKG-JED. Cathay later withdrew from the route. I managed to convince a poor Cathay agent to rebook me HKG-LHR-JED. That was a significantly better points earn (and experience).

Our AY flight Sin - Hel was cancelled and we were put onto QR for our first time - in 1A & 1E. It was only a couple of hours longer and the quality of in-flight service was an eye opener. The return flight in AY was fine but when you compared the AY overnight meal served on one tray compared to the full dine on demand service in QR there was a huge difference. Plus the AY cabin crew were all Hong Kong contract staff who weren't too obvious by their presence in-flight.

MEL-LAX-YVR sched change on LAX-YVR (AA) causing either short connect or all day connect required, so rebooked foc a couple of months out to MEL-LAX-DFW-YVR.

Good for SCs, less good for jet lag / travel weariness.

Our CR BC return MEL-HK (CX)-AMS-LIS (KLM) for September has had 6 route & schedule changes which turned a 30 hour trip to 46 hours!
We have accepted all changes and the final one has now definitely worked in our favour!

Initially could only get late arrival CR flight into Brisbane (school holidays so $$ for overnight accommodation and flight back to MEL) but when CX cancelled HK-BNE leg, excellent agent gave us QF30!

Very happy and fingers crossed, no more changes.
