Flight centre stuff up - what to do?

Here's the final update: Flight Centre called my dad last night, and they said that they will honour the contract and reinstate their flight exact as per originally booked.

No idea whether FC absorbed the cost of buying the tickets at the non-sale price, or whether they got lucky and somebody else cancelled.

It's as good a result can be hoped for.

Nice result, though I would expect they should have all along.

They would have had to absorb the current available fare, as even if someone else cancels now or availability in the booking class opens up, the fare has long expired so all they can do it use whats available, which at the moment would be around $4-500 per person.

It'll be a hard lesson for the consultant, but it's a good learning experience.

Glad to hear FC came to their senses and sorted it out, though the consultant not lying in the first place trying to cover themselves would have been the smart move, though you can likely blame their manager for that.

I have never had good experiences using Flight Centre ... Love stuffing things up!!!

And yet i have never had any issues when i have used them.
So you know there is always people that will be happy and ones not, bug generally they probably do ok, not great but acceptable most of the time for most people.

Good to see the issue was resolved as it should have been.

I have found that any agent/chain is only as good as the individual TA that you are dealing with.

Would have to agree with this! :)

And unfortunately when it comes to FC, with a 20-30% annual turnover of staff they constantly have new blood coming through the doors so your chance of getting an agent with little or no experience, and especially one with under 1 year of experience is fairly high.

A good reason to always seek out an experienced agent and ask for referrals from friends, family, colleagues if you dont have a regular agent; taking a referral from someone you know is likely to be far more successful than taking blind luck and hoping for the best.
