I am booking a flight for my Dad from MEL - Lisbon for early June next year. He is unsure of his exact dates, so wants 'flexible' tickets or a ticket he can change by paying a fee/using points.

I am thinking booking a points/miles ticket is the best way to go. Note I already have him booked on a one-way ticket home. Does anyone know which frequent flyer programs allow changes to dates for minimal $/fees. I know QF does. I also have AA, BA, LM and AS points.

HKG - LIS on EK J seems good value at 96k QF points with low taxes. I just need to get him to HKG.

Thanks.

If you need to retain the ability to change the date of flights, then I think you’d probably be better off with a paid ticket (with explicit rights to change dates) rather than a points award ticket.
Although the rules allow a date change for points award tickets under certain circumstances (for a modest points penalty), the bigger question is whether there’s going to be an award seat available for you on the alternative date (when you’re trying to make the change some time in the future).
