I think these are awesome. Do QF and VA have plans to retrofit any of their aircraft?
 
I know that Boeing would have designed it that way for a reason, but they couldn't have made the 2 tips a little more.... joined?

Aeronautical engineers are a weird lot, the Beech 1900 is a good example of an engineers afterthoughts, its got extra bits stuck on it all over the place.

It is a retrofit onto the existing blended winglet. So difficult to do without replacing the entire winglet. The 737 MAX will have a similar design that is a little more "joined" to use your term.
