Hi. In the past I've always booked my flights return through one airline. However, I want to travel to Canada via Air Canada as they leave direct from BNE, but then home with Qantas.

Are there any gotchas that I should be aware of booking two one-way tickets with two separate airlines? Seems straightforward but Ive never booked a one way starting from the destination to home.

Thanks

As seat0B points out, buying two one ways will usually be significantly more expensive. And you might only be saving a couple of hours flying non-stop rather than with one stop by staying all with the one airline.

There’s no issue buying the ticket from overseas to Australia, it’s easy and exactly the same as booking from australia.

You will however be billed in the local currency, so will pay an exchange fee unless you have a fee-free and transaction-free credit card.

Unless you have certain types of visa, most visitors will require a return or onward ticket. If you have separate tickets the airline won’t know your return, so you will likely be asked to show it before departing australia, and possibly again on arrival in Canada and any other country you are visiting.

What country are you looking to fly back from?

Thank you. I would be flying to Canada for a few days then onward to US. Return flight would be from US. Was thinking of possibly using reward QF seats on the way home, subject to availablity of course.
