Hi all I don't have a huge amount of experience with F lounges but does anyone think that MEL is better the SYD FLounge? My humble opinion is SYD is far better. Must say I have been a little disappointed. Anyway of to board shortly. Regards CM :D

It's a smaller lounge, and the view is not as fabulous, but apart from that, there are the same facilities. Quality is similar, just not quantity.

For myself, I prefer the Sydney Flounge, but if my flight leaves from Melbourne, then that's not an option, and I have to put up with what's on offer there. I don't see this as a major problem.

To answer your question I guess you'd need to say why you consider the SYD F lounge better than the MEL F lounge.

I prefer the MEL F lounge because it is smaller and more intimate. As previously mentioned they have the same facilities so that is my point of difference.

Yes, I feel the same way. Much less visually appealing, less seating and the Spa decor is nowhere near as nice.

SYD F is bigger, more impressive and has nicer views but it's usually much busier and service much slower.

For first impressions I'd recommend going via SYD but I personally prefer MEL as it's usually less busy.

Spa? I have never had a massage/treatment in any lounge, ever ... even when proactively offered - just not my cup of tea.

It's difficult to not enjoy the multi course (2, 4 or 6+) course meals one can have before departing on QF 9; leisurely, uncrowded... just fine.

Both have their pro's and cons but I like, and am more than happy to go to either SYD or MEL

Whilst I agree that the Spa in Sydney is nicer than its Melbourne counterpart I find Sydney to be too big and noisy compared to Melbourne. Being a smaller lounge I find the staff are easy to get to know and very friendly and yes I do enjoy the recognition given when ever I get to enjoy the Melbourne F lounge.

Definitely MEL for me. Feels much more intimate but still has good views. SYD feels like you're just another WP.

SYD by a long way.

Larger and more stunning than MEL.
Spectacular views.
Horrible service on three separate occasions at MEL. Wonderful staff all around at SYD.
Nestor on the door.

MEL, at least until I move over to the comfy chairs postprandial, when service becomes problematic. Will take breakfast at SYD next week, so a chance to re-test my impressions of it (which have it crowded and noisy like Coles Cafeteria). The only poor meal service I have had is at SYD.

I think with only one visit to each place the overall ambience and view at SYD was the difference for me.

I've been to the Melbourne lounge a few times before the Lax or HK flights. Always good for breaky, and the compulsory glass or two of champagne. Have never been able to get a spa spot thought.
So, last month had a flight to Honolulu, thru Sydney. Allowed plenty of time to spend at the Sydney lounge, and hopefully get a spa appointment.
However, very disappointed on arrival, to be told the spa closes at 4pm. Also the lounge was very quiet, and to me, lacked atmosphere.
Another issue was that the lounge was very very cold.
The staff said it couldn't be changed, and that it needs to be that temperature for when the lounge is busy, eg earlier in the day.

That said, the staff are fantastic at both.

TQ

Haven't visited SYD F.

But MEL F is a lot better than SYD J which is a lot better than MEL J.

Had to wait for a table at MEL FLounge. Other than needing a bigger dining area the lounge is fantastic.

A couple of years ago I would have been in complete agreement with you, but my recent experiences at MEL have not been great. My typical itineraries these days include QF and CX flights to HKG which coincide either with QF93 or QF9 and the lounge tends to be chockers and the service patchy.
