I do like your run, mine have made use of TSV and DRW and nice places as they are it would be good to also visit other (for me) far-flung reaches of Australia! Alice Springs is one of the few well-known (I was going to say major) places I haven't seen yet. The crew reaction can be funny.

As for who you tell about it, it's mandatory to share on AFF, and probably mandatory not to outside it ;)

Has your shiny new platinum status posted yet?

I ended up telling cabin crew that I was picking up an important document to be signed and returning it the next day. When asked why I didnt arrange a courier I said that it was important for me to be there in person to accept and pass it back.

DSC's have not posted yet.....id say they will in the next 24 hours.

Fortunately my (few) runs haven't involved an immediate turnaround.. can't say I look forward to the one that does

I think if crew ask about our runs we should see who can come up with the cheekiest answer.. something along the lines of "oh I have to rush back... it's starting to rain and I left my washing on the line"

40 SC for ASP-PER as long as it's full economy - I thought the price difference with discount Y would be ugly but it's not too bad actually - $178 extra for 20 more SCs. So your calculations are all correct. As anchew said, the JASA thread is a great starting point and you'll probably be able to work out something at even better value as long as you have the points to spare, and the key is to find flights closer to the classic (say 47,666 for PER-SYD) rather than the wasteful (233,346) level. Happy hunting and status-running :)

Hi Eastflyer,

How do you know if you find the flights that are closer to the classic?

I didn't even know this was the case.

So if you choose the wrong fare you will get less SC'S?

I personally use my own rule of thumb that there are the "good value" JASAs which might be say 47,000 points and they're readily distinguishable from the full-whack JASAs which clock in at 200,000+ points. In the example I looked up (PER-SYD) the classic award was 36,000 points + $30 [-]taxes[/-] cash component (or 40,850 all up), and the JASA was 36,000 points + $136.32 [-]taxes[/-] cash component (or 47,666 all up). That's why I said "close," not exactly at classic level.

JASAs will always get you business SCs, the less SCs was in reference to full vs. discount economy if buying a cash ticket.

As this is getting off-topic do peruse the mentioned thread and if you have any queries we'll help you out :)

Great - my misunderstanding.

Thanks a lot.

I'm planning on saying I think I left the iron on.
My +1 came up with that one.

I did Perth Exmouth once to do a runway inspection. Due to the fact that rig workers need to be shuttled out by helo, the operating aircraft (fixed wing) has a 2 hour turn around before returning the exchange crew to Perth. This allowed me enough time to do my thing before returning to the same crew. The FA stated at the top of the stairs "weren't you on the flight up?" to which I looked skyward and replied "Yeah, but it looks a bit cloudy here for my likes".

She seemed very confused.

I think this could be the basis for a whole new thread. Reactions from flight crew when on a SC run and excuses given to flight crew when on a SC run.
For what it's worth Adam, I would have been as annoyed as you.

'I don't care for this airport'

Re: First status run kicking off soon. Qantas lady thought I was playing a joke on he

"Taxi queue was too long" (the one I'm planning to use for the 45 min turnaround DFW-SEA-DFW in a couple weeks)

Re: First status run kicking off soon. Qantas lady thought I was playing a joke on he

HA - I have used that excuse before!

On my last one day ADL-Brissy-Townsville JASA the flight attendant asked me if I "didn't like Townsville" because I was back on the same plane and same crew 1/2 hour after I arrived!

I did this run the weekend 20/05/12 in J, rec'd 960SC. Quite enjoyable and got to know the crew very well. Wouldn't hesitate to book this again as a return trip with an overnight stay in Alice.

No amount of Status Credits are worth an overnight stay in Alice.

Making it to WP is worth it

Funny, that's also what most replies to my query "Is a/an SC run to go bronze to silver worth it?" said in an earlier post.
Well, I finally made QF silver today after 15 years membership so I rushed home to log in.
Yep, SC's and new status posted.
Quick check if my 600,000+ points will be any easier to convert into J/F ASA's to Europe, now or next year? Nope!
Just as I thought.
QF Bronze, AND now Silver, s**ks.

A little off topic; but try ringing QFF and ask what availability they have. They have access to other airlines that are not shown on-line and if you are flexible with route and date you may be very happy. And they don't charge you any $ or points until you actually book. Refer to the more specific threads for further ideas.

Good luck, JV

Why would status make it any easier to buy ASA tickets? AFAIK they are just like any other revenue ticket as far as availability is concerned.
If you're talking about cheaply priced ASAs, that also has nothing to do with status AFAIK.
You may be thinking of classic awards...

Re: First status run kicking off soon. Qantas lady thought I was playing a joke on he

ASA's are not status related AFAIK. Cheap ones come about with certain fare bucket availability.

PS has its benefits, especially when flying AA in America for one.

Re: First status run kicking off soon. Qantas lady thought I was playing a joke on he

So I'm doing the MEL-SYD-ASP-SYD-MEL run on Saturday. I'm also meeting up with one of my wife's cousins who sells some exotic lego sets, I'm picking up an 800 piece Lego set based on Star Wars, it's a replica of the pod racers for my 5 year old son.

So do I tell the crew who are obviously going to be on the same flight, that the lego is of such high value that I physically needed to be here to pick it up? The Lego is only worth $90 ;)

See you on the ASA-Syd leg I suspect - I'm doing a status run on Saturday - SYD-MEL-ASA-SYD-BRIS-SYD so I think we'll share at least one flight.
You're doing it in J class aren't you?
