First reward flight SYD-LHR. Are my expectations too high?

I recall an explanation well afterwards along the lines of the needing to be business class reward availability to be able to add without going through a supervisor.

We fall foul of this frequently since QF now offers virtually no flights CBR-SYD with J any more. We usually book separate connections with long connection times and take the risks.

Yeah I'm keen to hear about the "reality" after the "expectations" were somewhat shattered in the lead up to this adventure. I do hope it has been a success.
