For pure ease of using points and getting a direct flight home I'm about to do my first Jq international. Bkk-Mel Any hints or tips?

Probably just pay cash? The taxes probably make the use of points somewhat... Pointless, so to speak

If you are going to pay cash, buy a plus bundle... earn miles and SC!
OR you could always go the QF store and er, use your points to buy a toaster.

Bring food. A points booking will not include food and is expensive to buy on board for what you get.

Do check the cost of a regular cash booking on the same flight and compare it to the amount of points and taxes you'll need to pay.

If anything, you're likely to get better value if you book business with points.

I have resolved never to fly JQ where another option is available. If there is no option the anything approaching a flight that is longer than a movie means I head for 1A. JQ do often have specials and a good J + bundle option earning points and SC's and passable food is a good bet IMHO. If a strict budget is an issue I suspect you just have to suck it up

Take an empty water bottle through security screening, then fill it before departure. They won't even give you water anymore.

Is this a recent change? I got water on JQi about 2 months ago.
Saturday night I observed the passenger across the aisle from me ask for water and was told "we don't provide it, you have to buy a bottle".

Whether it's a change I don't know. It could be an individual FA who missed the part about customer service rather than Jetstar wide.

The J* website states: "Due to responsible service of alcohol requirements... " (http://www.jetstar.com/au/en/what-we-offer/in-flight/duty-free).

I assume that RSA also requires free drinking water to be available?

But be aware that you will have a final bag search immediately before you enter the holding pen. Any LAGS >100ml will be confiscated. However there is tap in the holding pen.

Re flying JQ if you must book a Y fare pay cash and hope you get the call to upgrade to J.

Think of a bulkhead seat unless you don't mind the one in front being in your face. Might be close to loo traffic though.

You cant use the brilliant Knee Defender.

Thanks Hvr. I should have made that clear.
