Just scored a J -> F upgrade for tomorrow SYD-LAX on QF11. Am incredibly excited! :mrgreen::mrgreen::mrgreen:

I've seen other threads about the tasting menu and first hosts and day before phone calls. I haven't received any phone calls today from Qantas. Could that be because I'm an upgrade and not a paying pax? Was hoping to get a spa treatment and indicate a preference for the tasting menu on board. The upgrade was confirmed about 23hrs prior to flight

Anyone have a similar experience?

Cheers

In my limited experience, have not been contacted when upgraded to F, only been contacted when booked into F from the start..
You could try contacting them... to see if you could get F dibs on treatment etc..
Anyway, enjoy the flight

Calls from the F Host when upgraded seem to be a bit hit-n-miss. Sometimes you get them, sometimes you don't. There should be no problem having the tasting menu onboard - I've never had to reserve this before.

Enjoy! It's a fantastic experience! :)

I managed to snag a J->F upgrade on the same flight last year. I didn't receive a call beforehand, and disappointingly there were no first hosts to be seen at LAX either. Everything else was awesome though :D

Gather you are leaving tomorrow - I think it’s too late now to contact the concierge but say 8.30am tomorrow contact WP ff center and get concierge phone no and call to make a booking for Spa. Do you want curb side meet for your baggage - when leaving from SYD I arrange for arriving 4 hrs. before flight to maximize time in lounge. Enjoy your flight. Future reference you can call day before if they haven't contacted you by mid PM

What a treat:D Like others have already mentioned - call in the morning & pre-book spa treatment, etc.

Enjoy the degustation.....pace yourself, it's a long flight with many drinks on board:shock:

That's what I did in my only and only F experience to date, called the F lounge made my appointment. Have z great flight

Awesome!!! Let us know how it goes! Pics or it didn't happen :p

Thanks for the replies
Helpful as always AFF community!

Will let you all know how it goes

Phone call in the morning sorted it all out

Sitting in the F lounge post massage and breakfast and enjoying a leisurely Crownie

Cheers
Pete

Relaxing and enjoyment seems well underway... you're in for a treat onboard!

This is the only part of this thread I don't like - you're sitting in the F Lounge and drinking a Crownie?! :D

Seriously though, hope you're enjoying yourself somewhere in the air between SYD and LAX. I'm flying QF11 on 30/05 and also have a J->F upgrade request in... hope it clears!

From a regular on this route in F. Email the F Host in LAX 24 hours in advance. They meet you at the aero bridge, expedite you, guard your bag and then recheck your bags (even if not continuing on OW!!). I can PM you the email address (although it appears that you have arrived already)

That is a very helpful hint. Thank you. I've put in for an upgrade to F for SYD-LAX in October and will definitely use this service, if my upgrade request is successful, as I'm connecting to SAN (and I hate LAX).

Oh Z.A, if you could pm me that email address, that'd be awesome. I'm planning a trip with mum,dad and I to LA in F after our last family holiday which was almost 20 years ago. My dad was trying to weasel out of it because he hates LAX with regards to customs etc, so this would make it 10x easier for me to convince him to come. :p

Last time we were in F on A380, we landed an hour early iirc, and there was at least a 1 hour wait at customs. Was really harsh and nothing done to expedite the process. (was a bunch of asian students with paper visas etc).

I think we shouldn't get too carried away with ourselves here:
I don't think that QF is going to make the First Host VIP transfer available for every Tom, Dick and Harriet who upgrades themselves to LAX on points.
Nice as that would be ;)
No disrespect to those paying for F and/or CL/P1 etc.

Haha, yeah, is the First Host VIP Transfer available for anyone flying in First, any WPs flying in First, or only full fee paying first passengers?

(My flights next year will most probably be classic awards).

It was worth an ask, If they reject my request, then I wouldn't feel offended or anything

To give you an indication:
I flew SYD-LHR in March, F cabin about 10 passengers. One of those passengers had a First Host meet him at LHR

Slightly OT, im on the same flight Syd-Lax and need to connect to the Lax-Sfo leg with AA and on different PNRs, can I bypass customs and immigration until I get to Sfo?

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.
