Flew first class from SYD-AKL-SYD the other day on a QF flight (EK Metal), for those of you who want had trouble locating the status credits for these flights it's 120 each way.

For the first time I'm going to hit QF WP this year (excited).

How was the first class experience on this flight? (Compared to business)

To be completely honest I found it overrated for such a short flight, you have your own personal space that no one but the FA's can annoy you in (great when you drag the wife along).

The FA's were pretty pushy getting the both of us to try the shower but FC is lost on a 3hr flight - I'm now in the process of booking flights to London for work so EK FC will be the selection and gee's that's upset the wife.

Whats the the best deal to London and how does that compare to the ROO?

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

SQ Suites are superior as I don't do warm drinks and the Hollywood bathroom is not on my needed list. I did the tester to Auckland and the food and drinks service was excellent.

I have flown EK F 4-5 times now on the dash across the ditch. Had a shower once for the 'thrill' of it. The seat itself was a mixed bag in my opinion, you have plenty of length but I don't think the seat is any wider than the J product... unless you count when the arm rests dip in fully flat mode. If I'm wrong about that, it wasn't obvious at the time. I could do without the gold accents but that's probably a design element that is 'in demand' in other cultures, so I understand that. IFE is pretty solid, though the pre-movie ad's are PITA.

The one benefit I have found is that the cabin is usually pretty empty on the MEL-AKL run, J is pretty popular. Staff are pretty good though, very prompt and courteous... no dragon's sighted.

I find it a pretentious cabin.
+1 on that.

I'm sure that the comfort and service were excellent, but I'm not sure that I could handle looking at that much plastic gold and wood grain on a flight longer than to AKL! It's all a bit dictator chic...

The shower, in my view, is more gimmick than pleasurable experience - it's too low in pressure, and the time limit really eats into any decent wash. However, the extra large bathrooms in F on EK A380-800 are - in my view - a major plus. You really have space to move, perfect for dressing, tidying up, etc.

Don't understand the mini bar given its not refrigerated!

If you are lucky, they sometimes chill the drinks before they re-stock the mini-bar - it's hit and miss (my last flight I got chilled ones!). You only use the mini-bar when taxiing and landing anyway.

So when flying F on EK across to AKL, does that mean you can use the QF First Lounges in (MEL/SYD)?? (regardless of whether it is ticketed EK or QF?)

Also, can I buy this as a FASA at Classic rates?

thanks!

No FASA at classic rates and you can use the QF first lounges.
