Hi,

We are considering two separate tickets / PNRs - London to Helsinki arriving into Helsinki at 15:15 local time, 2nd August, ticketed on Finnair. Then, Helsinki-BKK on Finnair metal but ticketed on Qantas departure 17.20.

I think given one is Qantas "ticketed", they won't through check baggage. As such, a 2h5m connection time is that asking for trouble?

Thanks for any reccommendations!

As Oneworld they will almost certainly throughcheck. QR had no problem doing this on MEL-DOH-HEL (QR) then HEL-LHR (AY) for us in December

Through-check aside, personally I wouldn't like a 2 hr connection time on separate tickets. I always allow for a 1hr delay in arrival ("these days", I'd probably allow more!). If that turns out to be the case, you would only have ONE hour to clear arrival immigration (I think), collect bags and re-check-in before check in closes for an international long haul flight - maybe 45 mins prior to departure?

Can you get a flight earlier in the day? If not, personally I'd fly the day before. Last time we had a long time to kill at HEL, we took the Finnair bus into Helsinki and had a pleasant day there before bussing back.

I think flying the day before is the right way to go + hotel near airport. Otherwise it's a 4.30am wake up to get the morning flight!

Finnair's website seems categorical - bags are checked to the destination stated on your ticket: separate tickets means you need to collect your bags at the destination marked in the first ticket and recheck: Does my baggage go straight to destination?

Agree with others that 2 hours not enough time given you need to enter Finland.
