After a few years absence, enough to run down my previously suspended 2 years (well 20 months) paid QANTAS Club Membership, I'm officially back to Gold Status!

It was a hard fall from being at WP (Platinum) for three years. As a WP I got use to the first class lounges traveling on award RTW Y tickets plus the occasional free upgrade from these award seats, especially Melbourne to Los Angeles flights for some reason. QF kept me at WP for two years without re-qualifying (very close the first year missed, way over qualified WP the years before I missed) and then slowly dropped me back to LT Silver via Gold as well.

Loving the better seat selection on domestic flights including free exit rows being available and even had some empty seats next to me on last two very full flights. Obviously no row 4 economy since they are saved for the really frequent travelers. Looking forward to regaining lounge access for OW flights next year on award flights again, boy missed that benefit earlier this year when not flying on QF.

Funny thing is my work just renewed 2 year QC membership which now gets suspended again, so back to the future, with luck will be suspend forever :)

But the real aim is to get lifetime gold. Still over 2,500 SCs away but at 41 years old hopefully when I achieve that status I will still have a long lifetime to achieve. Not bad getting SG back and 11.5 SCs for LT given only domestic discount Y paid travel. Status really works for the award international flights so glad I've got it back. Can't imagine ever getting back to WP, damn I miss those first class lounges / business domestic

Thanks to everyone here for your tips AND for making me jealous to at least get back to gold to get some strong benefits.

Welcome back! Even with LTG I still fear the day I lose WP.

Congratulations,

I went from QF with status to VA with no status due to changing work. Having held no status for the first time in years, it was really hard waiting in the public lounges, getting no benefits etc. Took me a hard 4 or 5 months to reach gold flying bi-weekly on savers.. Reaching gold with VA was refreshing, hoping I can make it to plat by my requal but if not, there's always next year. Happy flying!

Congratulations.
I too know the pain of losing WP after 8 years and no offer to comp me, especially how most of my flying is across the Tasman the loss of the First Lounge really stings.....so much so the disappointment of the QP at SYD T1 has made me drop QF for flights with my family as the new NZ lounge is more suited for my family.
Regardless the pain of statusless travel is worse, wow lining up in the economy check in line, poor seating etc is quite frustrating.

Congratulations.

I am dreading the day I drop back to Lifetime Gold even if the benefits of Platinum have been eroding the past few years.

I wonder how long to get the gold kit. Not a big deal travelling on QF since they obviously see the status but can be a pain at AA lounges when the boarding ticket hasn't refreshed to the new status.
