Restricting a guess as to what was the final regular public transport aircraft in east coast Oz to the time band of AEDT generally rules out SYD because of its 2300 hours curfew. BNE and OOL are excluded due to their operations being on AEST - much to the chagrin of many southeast Queensland residents who would like the Sunshine State to have its time aligned with ACT, NSW and Victoria all year round (although many in the rest of Queensland are opposed to daylight saving being introduced.)

As far as I can work out, the second last takeoff for 2015 was our old friend QF9 at 2355 hours (A388 VH-OQB) bound for DXB and LHR - not a flight known for consistent good punctuality, although the slower northern winter timetable that QF changed QF9 to is assisting.

However line honours must go to CZ322 (A333 B-5928) that took off at 2359 hours ex MEL bound for CAN. 'The Canton Route' has a nice ring to it but as yet it is not a travel expression that has gained the currency of 'The Kangaroo Route.' Nonetheless particularly during the Australian late spring, summer and early autumn, the mainland Chinese airlines have been increasing frequencies or introducing new routes (the latter more so to and from Sydney, to where two or three new smaller mainland Chinese airlines have recently begun flying.)

The first takeoff for 2016 if I am not mistaken was QR905 (B773ER A7-BAA) at 0021 on 1 January 2016 ex MEL for AUH: this is the 2355 hours flight.

QR has also been in the news in 2015 but some of it (alleged very poor Stalinist type treatment of female staff) was an example of 'making the news' (much as many of us share a distaste for the general decline in proper reporting, which these days can often be an oxymoron) for the 'wrong reasons.'

Because QR still does not fly to every Oz mainland State capital, it arguably continues to have a lower profile in Australia than EK and EY.

Happy New Year to all, especially the hardworking AFF moderators and the very kind airline staff who contribute.

QLD has the right idea. Daylight Saving should not exist.

It is my fault for mentioning it in the first contribution, but perhaps discussion about Daylight Saving's pros and cons requires a separate thread.
