Fiji (Nadi) Suggestions

Will be in Fiji (Nadi area) soon for a few days. Havn't really made any plans, but looking for things to do.

I realise most things are shut on a Sunday, but curious what will be open on Sundays.

Will be staying at the Westin Denarau. Got a cheap room for around $130/night as part of a package. Not really wanting to eat at the hotel, so local food suggestions would also be welcome.

Is it worth a day trip to Suva? Any tours you would particularly recommend?

The Ports o Call restaurant in the Sheraton has always been one of our favourites but with the downturn in tourism it was only open a couple of nights a week.Tell Tomaci drron sent you and he will look confused.
Cardos at the marina is OK.Chef's restaurant in Nadi is one of the best restaurants in Fiji.Hamacho at the Westin is a reasonable teppanyaki place.The golf club restaurant is good for a casual meal.
Personally i wouldnt bother with going to suva-all the rascals are there and Aussies not to popular with officialdom.

There is a very good Indian restaurant at the Marina, can't remember the name, modern and quite up-market (for Fiji) your concierge will know, also a great Indian in Nadi in the side street next to Jacks, behind the Indian cafe. (same owners).

Sheraton buffet is okay.

Sofitel buffet okay.

Avoid all the hotels fine dining restaurants except Port o' Calls though its been years for me on that one. Cardo's will disappoint.

Sundays are not as "closed" as they used to be. In '93 I was in a pub in Lautoka on a sunday - no tv then , no papers no books anywhere!

Also agree - Suva is a long way to go for not much.
If you're not into Golf, maybe take one of the Mamanuca Island day Cruises - stunning views!

The Sheraton (resort, not the villas) is being refurbished at the moment until November. All of their restaurants (except the Golf Club) seem to be closed.

Tried some of the suggested restaurants and a few others:

Cardo's - was ok. Have been told it's a bit hit and miss at times, but my meal was fine. The whole 'Port' area is a bit of a tourist trap. Actually the whole of Denarau is, but that's another story!
Italian place at Port: The pizzas were nice for quick and basic eating. Pasta was ok.
Saffron (Indian place behind Jacks). Quite nice food and friendly service.
Coffee Shop next to Saffron. Nice lunch type meals.

Missed out on Chef's and another restaurant near the roundabout which was highly regarded by regular visitors.

The cruises are definitely a nice day out and well worth it.
