Hi,

I am attempting to book a QF Code Share (American Airlines) on the net to avoid the 2,500pt booking fee - but my attempts have been unsuccessful.

I am trying to book the return leg of my trip. JFK - LAX (via AA) and then onwards to SYD. No problems with booking from LAX, but i have been unsuccessful booking from New York.

Do I have to bite the bullet and book over the phone? Has anyone else been able to book AA on the QF Codeshare before?

Thanks

Paul

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

There are much wiser heads on this board than mine, who can probably offer other solutions, but one idea is to book two separate one-way flights - 1.SYD - LAX and 2. JFK-LAX-SYD. The JFK-LAX leg will automatically be on AA.

I have tried previously to book internal US flights online through QFF and my understanding is that it can't be done.

Hi Paul
Couple of things to remember here if your trying to do this online
1) QF wont let you book a QF flight (or codeshare) from JFK to LAX, without it bring combined with the SYD leg at time of booking.
and
2) AA uses Sabre where other OW airlines use Amadeus. Therefore AA flights wont come up in the QF system online for awards. Normal bookings are OK, but not awards.

3) Have to do it on the phone because if you dont combine JFK-LAX-SYD for 64,000 points and do them separately, then it will be 48,000 + 25,000 = 73,000 points.

How about JFK-LHR-SYD for the same 64,000 points. Depends how much you life flying, I suppose.

If you dont mind a bit of flying and need a heap of SC's, then go for a AA YUP fare from JFK to LAX . Direct = 120sc with JFK-DCA-DFW-LAS-LAX = 300sc for about US$813 and 2800 base miles + 50% cabin = 4200 miles + Status bounus.

Hope this helps.

Rob
