I was going to take advantage of this month's offer 2for1 with the Priority Privilege at the Crowne Plaza Hunter Valley, for the coming week for 2 nights for a 2 bedroom villa. When I first checked it about 10 days ago, the rate was $290 a night. However, when I checked it again last night for booking, the rate has gone up 50% to $425 a night!!! This is terrible because they increased the rates for the last week before the offer expires. Therefore I won't be avail myself to the 2for1 offer after all ... Will be staying home instead.

I read in the news this week that 5* hotels in London are cutting their rates. And, ours are doing the opposite.

The BOGO rates are fully flexible, in other words you loose nothng by booking then rebooking or cancelling later on, looks like basic yield managment to me, they have less rooms so the price goes up. Same thing happens at Burswood for both HI and IC, only difference is when they realise they are nto going to sell those final rooms close to midnight they offer them to the casino punters for $100!

I read in the news this week that 5* hotels in London are cutting their rates. And, ours are doing the opposite.

The market for a 5* London hotel is a bit different to rooms at a Crowne Plaza in the Hunter Valley, so what happens in London is hradly relevant to what happens in the Hunter Valley.

The prices throughout the Hunter seem very pricey at the moment.

I've just booked @ that hotel in March, 4 nights with average $160/nt (single room), but three were @ $135, one at about $270 (friday night). Everywhere else in hunter was $275+. When i was there three years ago, price was around $170/nt.

Suspect at the moment there, Supply < Demand! It's conference season.....

Thanks for the link, futaris. I think it is better value for money than the 2for1 offer through Priority Privilege - no breakfast, and only good for February. Whereas the getaway deal included breakfast and good till April 2009! I have been thinking of a 2 bed villa with some girlfriends to hack some golf. So, the getaway deal is very attractive.

I wonder if the Getaway deal would qualify for points though, its quite easy to rack up 5K of points in one night and thats another free night, which tilts the value a tad!
