Pretty clear to see from this why QF81 / QF82 struggled with yields... with SQ offering direct ADL to SIN return for ~$568 less than a non-direct QF flight....?

Clearly not an ADL pax loyalty problem...!

Red Roo, how do you explain this...! After all, who in their right mind in ADL would book such rubbish...?

On the other hand, when I'm looking for fares around the October long weekend instead of December like you searched, QF comes up a bit cheaper than SQ - $798 on QF v $852 on SQ (or SQ is $930 if I take the very much more attractive daytime flight home instead of the red eye).

A bit cheaper on QF, but IMO still not cheap enough to compensate for the doubled travel time having to go via SYD or MEL.

Correct Anna, unless its significantly cheaper, why would an ADL pax bother with Qantas to SIN with travel time ~30% longer...?

As another data point, I'm flying SQ direct to SIN in early June as follows: -
Payment detailsTotal Cost
AUD 697.21
(including taxes and surcharges)

Cost break down
Total fare AUD 299.00
Airport/government taxes AUD 124.41
Carrier surcharges AUD 273.80
Total Cost AUD 697.21

And yes, that is still significantly cheaper than the QF offering...

I used to love the fact I could connect with these flights, for international arrivals & departures to/from ADL. Standing in SYD customs & immigration is a right royal PITA - even more so when Border Stupidity is being filmed. . . . .

On more than one occasion our PA re-organised outbound and inbound flights, with QF81 & QF82, for us to utilise and enjoy the F Lounge to its fullest potential. ;)
