Thats fine if youre happy to spend 13 hours in a cramped Y seat each way.

My days of doing that are well and truly over.

Wish there were cheap 'cash' J class fares. It is so difficult to find J class using frequent flyer points.

Mine were too long haul decades ago, its not for me but others (young) might take it up.

However, about to go CNS/DPS/CNS on no star in Y, no J (PE) on these sectors, but we did select exit row13 with non reclinng row12 but then again its just 4.5 hours direct

That Coles jingle comes to mind:

" Down, Down, The prices are down".

With Plenty of capacity and competition of the trans -pacific routes, will continue to see some extremely low prices continued to be offered to assist getting bums on seats.

There are cheap J class fares..........but what would you consider cheap?

And if Q points get smashed with fees, reason I get to HKG anyway I can and go from there and usually get J seats no problem, if to USA miss LAX and fly direct to so many cities, Europe near ditto. Have snagged PE out of SFO so basically a real cheap Circle Pacific fair on my terms using points.

Don't forget there can be a small window of getting entire 4 seat rows to your self in Y if you choose off peak times/days which for $900 can be great value. If you're flying as a couple then even more chance of snagging a 4 seat row.

Nothing beats J but the expense and lack of points fares means other avenues need to be looked at.

Very unlikely. I've not seen this occur with the last 3 years on any international flight I have been on.

I say under $3000 was cheap.

That is OK, but you have to consider that there has never been a $3000 Business Class return fare to the US from Australia; and there never will be.

Qantas has joined the party, $993 on Amex Travel...using the Amex Explorer $400 credit makes it an attractive $593.....

Blame the exchange rate. When the AUD was up around USD1.10 three thousand was possible exSEAsia.

Happy wandering

Fred

Even though it is not real J, I have always thought the best way to get to the US was a combo of Jetstar business to HNL then AA the rest of the way.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.
