Fare difference with QF & EK websites for same flights

A collegue & I were looking at some flights for their June trip to Europe today. The QF website came up with $6234 [2A + 1C] for MEL-DXB-ARN + CDG-MEL. 3 of the flights were on EK + QF9. We then looked at the EK website for the same flights & the fare came back at over $8000. I was wondering why there would be such a big fare difference.

I had the reverse experience with QF j flights being about 2k above EK. My guess is that they dont make there entire cheap inventory available to each other, or more sinisterly they exploit loyalty to the selling brand

I have been looking at J to DUB next Christmas on both EK & QF. EK is about $1500 cheaper per person.
