Famous people seen (or even met) whilst flying or lounging

I believe it's Dr Kevin Rudd to you 😜

Now Jimmy Carr sitting next to K-Rudd on the same flight would have been a thing of beauty to behold 🤣
My wife is Dr SydneySwan but I have never addressed her as such. :D

Unfortunately Jimmy Carr was not on my flight, perhaps because 1A was already taken 😀😀

Yesterday (Wednesday 8th) entering the QF F lounge in Sydney (as I was leaving) was Dick Smith. I wondered if he has CL status or is just a lowly P1 or WP.

Dick who- isn’t that the guy who peddled overpriced electronics to screw generations of naive Aussies over and has long gone out of business, quite deservedly so? Or is this a different one with the same name…?

He sold the business long before it went bust.

Dick is a very smart man and is well known for many other things. Very well known and regarded in the aviation industry
Oh I believe that he is smart, he somehow managed to talk unsuspecting Aussies into spending way too much money on bad service and overpriced goods- I’ve been to a few of those stores when they still existed and they were worse even then Radio Shack in the US and that’s saying something!

But I’ll have a look at Wikipedia to see whatever else he is supposedly famous for.

Good on him. And is he known for anything else or is he indeed just a Harvey Norman 2.0? Or maybe the other way round, as it might be…?
Dick Smith is about the most moral, honest, selfless, generous, and should be respected, Australian ever.
His self named company went through several buyers in which he had no interest. Please, please, don't connect that him with those subsequent PE scum owners.

Gosh- that must have been before my time then. Because I’ve always seen those stores as god awful cash grabs. How did the “scum” then end up with his name I wonder?

I didn’t mean to offend anyone. I only hear this name and instantly think “Oh, same as Harvey Norman, some of the biggest crooks in Australian retail”. Both these chains have been undoubtably awful and I know this sector here in Australia quite well from my own work so I would think my judgement is not entirely unfounded.

Saying all that- maybe he should not given his name away like this as this seems to not be describing the actual person at all, judging by your comments. I pretty much went by what I’ve seen by this name and that’s only these electronic stores which was admittedly only from the late 90ies onwards.

He started his electronics business fixing and installing car radios in his garage. He was very smart and started the electronics business and had a few stores in Australia and even Hong Kong. He completely sold all of the businesses in the early 80’s to Woolworths. Woolworths kept his name but Dick had no shares or any role with the business.

Woolworths took over the company, and company name obviously, in the 1980s. Perhaps yes, before your time. It's not been his company since then. He then started Australia Geographic.
Dick Smith is a great Australian. Consider one little event which shows his morality...he felt that someone with his income should be paying more tax than was assessed, so made a donation to the ato.
