Famous people seen (or even met) whilst flying or lounging

Steve Larkham, Naomi Watts, Caroline Wozniaki, Juan Martin Del Potro, Tom Waterhouse in various lounges this past week. Plus others who looked vaguely familiar but can’t place!

Which lounge did you see Waterhouse in? I saw him a few years ago in the Sydney CL which I thought was interesting.

SYD F lounge. In an attractive group or at least seemed to know a few other patrons and was working the room. But I don’t mean that in a negative way, just seemed a friendly fellow.

Tim Finn at the Auckland Pullman. Have seen him there a few times. Either he stays as regularly as I do or he owns one of the residences.

I was on a flight London to HK in First Class a few years ago (when you could still talk to other 1st Cl passengers in the aisle) and I spent some time talking to the guy behind. He was African, not so young but had a young, bejewelled glamorous wife (?) with him.
He was very friendly and unpretentious (to the point of being nice and ordinary) but changed into a suit and tie before we landed.
Surprisingly we stopped dead when taxiing into the HK airport terminal and I looked out and a staircase was being rolled up, and red carpet, line of limos and a brass band was in position- for my mate in the next seat.
The flight attendant informed me later he was the Prime Minister (or president ?) of South Africa.
Not so famous I guess (I don't even remember what his name was) but a nice brush with a famous (at the time) but humane guy.

Kind of got me curious this. Searched for possibilities . South Africa hasn't had a Prime Minister since Apartheid days. Thinking maybe Vice President. A few spring to mind, including the now President Cyril Ramaphosa. Doubtful, as it would be difficult to describe his wife as glamourous. No insult intended. But he was a VP. Jacob Zuma, recently departed president would be unlikely, but he was a VP.
Although there has been a couple of female Vice Presidents? Maybe it was her?

Guess it depends on what year it was.

Bill Shorten in the first row on VA MEL-CBR. I don't follow much sport or reality TV so can only recognise the odd politician here and there.

It could have been Jacob Zuma as he has been both VP and until recently President of South Africa. Plainly a charming man, the Polygamist has acquired 6 wives over the years including one 30 years younger than himself.
It would seem that he is not always beguiled though as he got cold feet with one fiancé, a Swazi Princess whom he had bought for 10 cows. The controversial figure is currently under investigation in South Africa for corruption and money laundering.

Could have been Mbeki. Don't suppose it matters much, but it was an amusing experience.

Saw him some time ago in F on a QF flight to HK ( yes, that long ago). I don’t think that was his last leg
