Due to changing spending patterns andCC use, KrisFlyer points accumulation is now viable for me.

How hard is it to get F awards?

It depends on the routes you are looking for as some are easier than others. Saying that, I am referring to the cheap F saver awards rather than standard and full. I understand that the SIN-NRT-LAX F savers can be harder to get, also SIN-FRA-JFK.

As a data point, I booked 2 F saver awards for MEL-SIN-HKG for Good Friday in late November last year and return flight from NRT-SIN-MEL at the same time.

from what I have read they seem to add a lot of last minute availability, cove and cruiser Elite would be the best in the know to ask

My friends and I have managed to get 6 first class saver suites to and from Singapore on the one flight.

On the way back we initially only had 4 as 2 had not clear cleared the waitlist (they had back up confirmed business saver fares). We all checked in together at the First class check in. There were two suites still available so they managed to get us all into First.

Would it be easier if I applied for NRT-LAX standalone?

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Why not become a member and play around with searching what is available. If you can't get F there is always slumming it in C/J ;) That said, I find much greater availability than any long haul QF route and SQ not only gets you to LAX/JFK, there is a whole range of European options too - that a QF plane will never see.

I think that is the harder leg to get. But not impossible and as already pointed out, there is plenty of options with SQ compared to QF. I did think you were based overseas for some reason hence my questions about what routes you were interested in.

Agreed better availability than QF ( well, anything is really) but some routes a bit tricky.
Having said that, with planning I have always got what I wanted
Third suites trip to Europe coming up in a few months - not bad for someone with only 40 SCs across all programs
