Hi Guys,

Sorry for something that might seem silly, but this was the best place for me to ask.

I'd love to fly MEL-AUH in the future, and I was curious if there was any way to soften the blow of a full priced J ticket. I'm a Velocity member, so is there any way for me to use Velocity points to redeem a J ticket? If so, any idea how much I would need?

Sorry if this is a stupid question, but I'm new to all of this. And thought if there was anywhere to ask some tips on something like this, it'd be here!

Thanks!

Hi, and welcome to AFF. :)

You can certainly use your points to book this flight, provided there is award availability in Business class. The cost would be 104,000 Velocity points + $356.05 in taxes/surcharges for Business. You can search for and book the flight on the Virgin Australia website - just tick the "Use Points + Pay" box when searching.

If you didn't have any points available, another way to not pay full price is to buy and redeem American Airlines miles. This flight would cost 80,000 American AAdvantage miles in business class, or 100,000 miles in First class. American sells miles for around US$30 per thousand, and you can often get bonus miles on purchases which reduces the cost.
