Etihad Airways has confirmed it is in talks with Alitalia, which will on Friday announce it has met its €300 million ($413 million) funding target.

“Etihad Airways is in discussions with Alitalia. We have no further comment at this time,” an Etihad Airways spokesman confirmed to ATW, following reports the Abu Dhabi-based carrier is in advanced talks to buy up to 49% of Alitalia.

They are nuts to buy it unless they get to massively restructure the whole business. That may prove difficult with "only" 49% and an organisation resistant to change.

Be smarter to start a new Italian airline than buy into that one.

Agree with other posters, what a can of worms to even think of buying.
