Hi Everyone,

Just wondering if any VA Velocity status holders have direct experience flying Etihad with one of these saver / sale promotion fares? specifically those that come with "no baggage" included. I've been able to find plenty of references to Etihad Guest status holders being allowed to check 10kg/15kg/20kg for Silver/Gold/Platinum.

I've found some articles posted by online travel publications stating "they believe" the allowances would be the same for frequent flyers that have reciprocal type benefit with EY (such as Velocity). perhaps my search ability isn't what it used to be - but I cannot find any discussion or confirmation here or on any other travel discussion forum.

I have a flight coming up at the end of August 2023 - so happy to report back on how checking a bag in goes with this type of fare should no one know for certain.

There’s only this page: Etihad Airways

Silver and above get 10kg, 15kg and 20kg respectively. But that says ‘additional’ baggage allowance. Is it ‘additional’ to what you already have? (which is none, so you can’t have ‘additional’) Or is it stand-alone? That would be the question!

OK, So I can report from personal experience now.

No issues checking in the bag at the airport (although I played it safe and made sure the bag weight was under 15kg) , as VA Gold was able to use the Business Class check-in without issues (this was at Vienna Airport).

Things were looking certain about this when I went to do online check in the evening prior to the flight.

I noted that the Etihad Website had picked up and was displaying my VA Gold Status. The "Manage booking" page showed a checked baggage allowance of 20kg (this should have been 15Kg, but I am not going to argue about that).

What I don't know - and is the reason I posed the question here - is exactly when Etihad picked up my status and updated it within the booking for me to see on the website. I checked over it for the first two days - and then didn't look at it again until the day before flying, so it is possible the checked allowance could have appeared sooner.

Anyway - for those interested - in terms of the checked baggage allowance - VA Silver/Gold/Platinum appear to be treated the same as Etihad Guest Silver/Gold/Plat.
