Headforpoints have flagged that you can buy travel vouchers with a 50% uplift for any EY flights over the phone until 24 June valid into 2022. If you have the spare dollars, sounds like a good discount

I got an email from Etihad about this overnight.

Seems like a good ploy to raise some cash at a time when they really need it. I guess the main risks are that (1) Etihad goes out of business, or (2) you're unable to travel and use the voucher in the next 2 years.

I personally have enough money already tied up in airline credits (that I didn't necessarily want) & have plenty of expiring miles to use when travel resumes, so I won't be taking Etihad up on their offer at this point.

It's a pretty decent offer, but considering the uncertain nature of Velocity status & number of points I have in AA, QF and VFF I will also give this one a miss.

I also got this offer and like @Mattg I have plenty of credit with qantas and jetstar that I need to use.

This is a great offer and possibly many airlines will follow suit, can only hope!

Given Etihad fares are about 50% over the cost of decent competitors I normally use, this was a consideration. But then with the question of whether they will continue to run A380s, whether onboard service will continue to fall, and possible route changes/impacts, it doesn't weigh up against those risks given the hard 2 year expiry. So I'm passing on this.

It’s a pretty decent offer but like others have mentioned I’m nervous about route changes, etc plus of course Etihad’s financial position has been well documented. However I don’t see the government of Abu Dhabi allowing Etihad to go under given how reliant they are and will be on the airline for feeding through AUH and for tourism. I was never a huge fan of AUH as it was always overcrowded but will obviously be a lot quieter now...speaking of which has anybody heard anything about the new midfield terminal opening?

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Looking at fares ex SYD/MEL to Europe, EY is quoting $8000+ in business class through the end of the year, compared to $5500 for QR, SQ, CX and the like.

So even at a 50% bonus, the offer sucks.

Of course the fares should come down. But certainly not attractive to tie up your cash right now on.
