Just tried to change to 23K on a Per-Mel flight on Friday and it wants to charge me $60. So phoned QF and they tell me there has been a change on 18th Aug and these are no longer free for WP.
Another lost reason to fly QF. I only fly them because I can justify getting a seat I can work at in the air. Otherwise it's VA as that is company policy.
Oh well, another enhancement from the dedicated customer service dept. (Anyone seen them offering Fawlty Towers in the hotel listing, they must be getting ideas from somewhere).:-|

If this is true then that is very very bad. RedRoo can you confirm this enhancement? Not like QFF to enhance without telling us...

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

I am sure this has only been implemented following customer feedback, with customers wanting the option to secure extra-legroom seats even if they book at last minute.

WTF really

Makes no sense at all. Profit at all costs?

I think your predictions were right... with the exception of lounge access, platinum is the new gold.

At least OWE is well recognised and valued on some partner airlines.

Unless I'm reading the wrong line - tier benefits on the website clearly shows only P1s have complimentary extra legroom seating. Is this a change (I've never looked before)?

Charging for extra legroom seats on the domestic 330 services is fairly new.

What about Dom B737s, do QF charge extra on them as well?

Edit: just checked on one of my +1 bookings and seems it's still free for WPs. Possible because it's an existing booking made before the 18th? it doesn't make sense to charge on A330s but not on B737s.

It is only for the 330's on the transcon runs. The extra legroom seats on the 330 generally have a lot more leg room compared to those on the 737's.

So now QF charge by plane model? B737s exit rows have plenty legroom yet those seats are still free on transcon flights while A330 seats now cost $60? Bizarre decision IMO.

I quite agree, the average frequent flyer (ie anyone not on AFF) shouldn't have to think about what aircraft they will be on, and will be confused no end when this pops up on a domestic booking for the first time.

Well it confused me as I was able to choose 23B on the Mel-Per on Monday but not on the return! I actually prefer 4C on the 737 to (getting tired) A330's so roll on the downturn and 737 substitution!
If I was younger I would move my loyalty to VA for the much better programme, service and benefits. Last QF complimentary upgrade was well over a year ago and on a 767 after the previous Syd-Mel was cancelled. (However a recent trip to China on a couple of OW carriers saw me upgraded twice on one trip!).

Plenty of legroom? They are still affecting by the recline of the person in front. The extra legroom seats in the 330's are not AFAIK.

That is probably the reason behind the charge on one but not the other.
