They are adding fees to online orders for remote areas or collection/delivery on a Sunday or Public Holiday.

  • Sunday/Public Holiday Service Fee: Customers will have to pay a $2 service fee on orders for Delivery, Direct to boot, or Pick-up on a Sunday or Public Holiday.
  • Remote Area Deliveries: A $20 fee will be applied to deliveries to remote islands (Karragarra Island, Lamb Island, Macleay Island, North Stradbroke Island, Russell Island and Coochiemudlo Island) located in postcodes 4183 and 4184.
  • Our Delivery Unlimited customers may be charged a service fee. Service fees will be charged for orders delivered or collected on Sundays or public holidays and to remote island locations located in postcodes 4183 and 4184

Starting from Feb 3 or 10 depending on state.

They’re finally starting to realise that doing for free the costly work that was once done by the customer is, indeed, costly and unprofitable for them. What a surprise!! At some point someone, other than the retailer, would have to start paying.

As the saying goes, modified for the occasion, “there is no such thing as a free online supermarket shopping delivery”.

I placed a click and collect order for collection on NY day for no reason other than it suited me and becaue there was no charge for it. I fully expected their would be and only clicked onto the day by accident and happy surprise.

I noticed last week when I went to hand pick some spuds, that the plastic bag which sits next to them now has a 5c fee!!!!
Wow! That's rude. They already charge more per kilo for loose veg. I reuse my plastic bags until they tear and I've noticed the bags are thinner plastic than they used to be.

They had to change the type of bags they use for produce/deli because of legal stuff around "single use" plastic

I haven't seen this as yet.

How are they actually charging and collecting the 5c? How does the bag get scanned at the checkout etc?

I’m waiting for the fee structure to spread around the retail network for online orders.

Kmart/BIGW/Target etc probably next. I recall Kmart once had a $3 fee.

I didn't bother, and bought a sealed bag of cleaned spuds in lieu…

They could do a thing where say OnePass or EDR Members get free click and collect. That will drive loyalty signups also. OnePass do free rapid click and collect, and free home delivery across the Wesfarmers brands.
