Hi

What are the chances of QF supplying an express path pass if late checking in due to transit issues between terminals, if I ask nicely?? Anyone been successful

Cheers

I've had troubles receiving them from the F desk as a WP... admittedly flying JQ though :p

No harm in asking if you're running late.

Hi all - I have a question which I might as well tack on to this thread.

Friend of mine is travelling with two colleagues to LAX via SYD (dom QFd->QFi). One is in business class, the other two in economy. They have a scheduled transit in SYD of 90 minutes.

I guess in theory 90 minutes should be fine, and the business class passenger will have express path. But what about the other two? If the inbound QFi flight is just 30 mins late, and if there are huge queues at SYD outbound immigration, what happens? Do they approach the queue manager, present their boarding passes, and get some sort of expedited clearance? Does QF provide any assistance, or hold the flight (within reason) for connecting pax?

I cant comment on the transit but I have 2 Sydney express passes if you (they) want them. Not sure if they are QF or SQ but happy to mail them but I can only mail Mon/Tue/Wed this week because Im off after that.

PM your address if you want me to mail them to you

cheers,

Wow! Thanks for the offer (and very generous)... but not necessary as I won't be catching up with them before they go in the next couple of days.

I (and I would guess many others) have a drawer of them which get handed out to friends/family members when they head off on their yearly vacation. Would be happy to help out if required.

Thanks Opusman, the express cards were extremely beneficial especially the inbound one. I am eternally grateful. 16 hours from DFW to SYD and 6 mins from bag collection to exit hall with a tired wife and toddler made all the difference. Thank you

Glad I could help!

I've found recently that while the outbound express passes are great especially when there is a large queue at SYD the inbound express lane is as long or longer than the normal passport queue. I am finding the smart gate is always the fastest queue (observed over 5 trips during the last 3 months) when arriving - anyone else agree?

A few Sunday mornings ago I arrived along with what seemed like every other international flight and there was only only one custom agent processing the express path for arrivals. Smart gate line only took me a few minutes even with all gates full.

Absolutely.

The main problem at MEL however seems to be the location of the initial smartgate machines (the one where you scan the passport and answer questions). These are dotted down the main walkway and it appears people stop and use the first one they see... I've seen the line 5 or 10 people deep.

If you walk right to the end however, there's a bank of machines that are generally empty.

That is not a problem at all. It is a positive ..... at least for frequent travellers who know not to queue and use one of the machines at the end. :)

Thanks for the tip - Flying into MEL Int. in afew weeks for the first time, will keep this in mind while still half-asleep on a Sunday morning!
