Exploring FRA and surrounds

Hilton at FRA is very expensive - you sure pay for the convenience.

My own best tip would be to get the train to Mainz-am-Rhine (? 30-45 mins from hazy memory) and visit the Gutenberg Museum (the town is 'the home of movable type press') and stroll by the Rhine.

I didn't feel the Hilton was that expensive. Or is that the airport rather than the city one?

I've not been to the airport one.

I was in Frankfurt last month and did a 3 hour city tour with Frankfurt on Foot Tours, which was great. I was spending a few days there but around half of those on the tour were in transit. From memory, the cost was €12 and it meets daily at 10.30 near the Dom/Römer U-Bahn station.
