I was just looking at an all-inclusive hotel in Cancun which was quoting AUD $2,886 for 5 nights for our holiday next year.

Upon changing the region to Mexico and currency to MXN was quoted MXN$31,000 which converts to AUD $2,370.

Tried Brazil and was quoted R$6,225 = AUD $2,195.

I have a credit card that doesn't charge foreign transaction fees which I was thinking to use. Room rate also has free cancellation.

Has anyone had experience doing this?

Is this an old trick that I haven't thought to attempt or am I overlooking something?

Cheers
JK

Shouldn't be a problem. Sometimes changing the region will mean taxes aren't included however. So always worth confirming the final price.
