a couple of questions for the peeps in the know if I may...next months trip is SYD-LAX-ORD-YOW-ORD-LAX-SYD

By the time i reach YOW I will be painfully short of reaching EXP by a mere 176 qpoints!

1. What are the chances of AA giving me the status in time for the trip home? Would a friendly call the the plat desk help? I have a 5hr stop over in LAX on the way back and would 'LOVE' to experience a Flounge for the first time!

2. I have a 3hr stop over at ORD before heading to YOW - I assume I will be eligible for lounge access at ORD? If so, what are the options for lounges?

3. I have been allocated 1A (Embraer ER4) for both ORD-YOW/YOW-ORD legs. Looking at seatguru it appears its a single seat - kinda weird! Has anybody sat there?...i think it would make you feel like a gumby up there all alone :D!!

Cheers all!

You won't feel like a gumby - it's just the front seat in the single file of seats in a 1-2 config - and you have direct access to the FA/galley.

As for the EXP access, all you can do is try - if you explain the situation and they can see your itinerary and that you will soon qualify they're more than likely to put you over the line in anticipation. If not, hang up and call again :). If I was you I would be calling AAdv from LAX or ORD on the way over and asking to be pushed up to EXP - I don't think it's going to make a difference to the answer whether you're 176 or 731 qppoints short as long as they can see your itinerary.

In ORD there is a FL and a couple of ACs depending on which gate you depart from.

Flights to Canadian destinations from the U.S don't confer any rights for an ExPlat or Plat AA member to access the AA lounge.

Or as it's written elsewhere:
"Lounge access benefits: When travelling internationally* on any of the oneworld member airlines, regardless of the class of service, a Sapphire equivalent member and one guest will be welcome in any of the exclusive airline pre-flight Business Class and Frequent Flyer lounges.

* Solely North American itineraries within or between the U.S., Canada, Mexico (except Mexico City), the Bahamas, Bermuda and the Caribbean are not considered international destinations. This exception applies to AAdvantage members only and not to any other oneworld Frequent Flyer programme members."

Yeah sorry that' right on the outbound SYD-LAX-ORD-YOW you're not entitled to lounge access as an EXP because you're not departing on an internatinal OW flight. But on the way back YOW-ORD-LAX-SYD you will be.

If ORD is just a connection en-route to YOW rather than a stopover , then he will have lounge access. AA domestic lounge access is permitted if there is a same day international connection, so if having come in from Australia , that will allow for access

thanks for the tips guys

I may even make a 'cheeky' call before I depart SYD to see if I can get pushed up prior to leaving, this way I could sneak into the SYD Flounge ;)

I think that is very unlikely ;)

When you get to the lounge though I would advise against demanding access - just print a copy of the lounge access rules and have that handy just in case.

The AAngels are generally pretty helpful and in LAX they should certinaly see a fair few Plat/EXP connecting on international flights. I saw an EXP in the F lounge when I was incorrectly given F lounge access when in LAX last.
