Hey all,

Is it possible to exit the departure airside area at SYD after clearing immigration for Australian passport holders? i.e. you decide not to fly for whatever reason?

Thanks

I'm sure it's possible, you would just have to clear immigration (and possibly explain why you are coming back so quickly). They can't force you onto a plane.

I saw one instance of a family leave the terminal when their flight was delayed by 6 hours. Took the staff in the Qantas First class lounge an hour to arrange for bags to be retrieved and the exit arranged. May have been more of an issue because they wanted to leave but still come back for the flight. But seems like a big hassle and not one I'd try too often.
