Thanks for that Airbridge, it is interesting to see how muddled early logos were. I hope Emirates didn't pay their Graphic Artists too much for their redesign.

At least it was an improvement! I think QF's new font looks very awkward, especially on the A330s.


The longevity of some designs without looking dated is impressive. AA's recently superseded logo certainly didn't look like it was 50 years old.

Common theme: Less logo, more brand name.

Interesting how United went from "Airlines" to "Air Lines" to "Airlines".

I think there are some good examples of style over substance. New brooms get into management and first thing they do is change the logo. Look at what happened to Aer Lingus - 3 new logos in just a few years before reverting to their previous look. Must have cost the shareholders a small fortune. Get it right first time and a logo can almost literally become timeless. Some of these airlines must change their stationery as frequently as some political parties change leaders...

Maybe the Teutons know how to do timeless designs. JAL have gone back to the future with their logo. Maybe KLM and Lufthansa knew their 1960s were cool all along.
