LOL!! they say they have "one of the world's most modern fleets" but they still don't have anything like 787's or A350's.

Ah yes, but in their minds having the Hello Kitty planes more than makes up for any other issues. Plus, in TPE I found the lounges terribly cold, and I'm not a 'cold' person. Even huddling embarrassingly with 2 blankets I was cold.

Skytrax must have got it all wrong.

Maybe Hainan and Garuda don't deserve ticks.

Skytrax airline ratings is like Halliday wine ratings - overrated.
Having said that, I think BR have one of the best long haul J products (Royal Laurel).

Has anyone flown EVA? I haven't, my partner has and reported that J was on a par with the likes of SQ. Said the food and beverage was excellent and seating was CX style reverse herringbone.

But of course we are a cynical bunch .....

I did on my Guam jaunt 18 months ago. TPE-GUM was older aircraft but i was very impressed with TPE-HKG on comparatively new one. Service was superior.

I had a very similar experience. HKG-TPE on BR J was the best short-haul flight I have ever had. Addressed by name before we even stepped on board.

They are brilliant in long haul J, right up there with some of the best.

Current Certified 5-Star Airlines are ANA, Asiana, Cathay Pacific, EVA Air, Garuda, Hainan Airlines, Qatar Airways and Singapore Airlines.

Obviously my perspective is different to yours...but in aviation terms that list contains one of best and a couple I don't like being in the same airspace with.....

I just shared what Skytrax reported. And of course my impressions about Eva.

Of those on the list I haven't experienced Hainan.

Flew BR on a PEK-TPE flight on the 777-300 with "Royal Laurel" J and was suitably impressed. Not a massive fan of herringbone seating, but the food and service were all great.

Garuda 5-star?

In my experience Eva Air has some of the most expensive airfares I have seen in SE Asia. Perhaps awards are the way to go.

An airline's rating should be based on the outcomes of their service recovery when something goes wrong.

One airline: something goes wrong and the "pilots" pull circuit breakers then forget about being a pilot.
Another: cancels flights then takes months to refund money or rerouted passengers into bad itineraries.
Another airline refunds passengers between the full fares the downgrade of the day of flight and the fare paid.
Etc etc
It is easy to be slick and efficient when everything goes right. It's when the proverbial hits the fan that true colours are revealed.
