Europcar or Hertz for US rental?

A quick check of Hertz from Jan 11 for 4 weeks shows the cheapest SUV is ~AUD2,200 for a rAV4, prepaid., incl all insurance. Depending on what CDP's or other discounts you have access to, you might be able to get 10-20% off. Eg Amex Plat Charge Card usually gives 15% off.
I hadn't realised that the Amex Platinum Charge Card usually gives 15% off for Hertz rentals. Is there a CDP code to use for this? I can't see anything on the Amex website.

I've just phoned Amex and was told that you only get the discount if you book through Amex Travel. I asked them for a quote for two upcoming rentals I have booked for the USA and one for Canada and the prices I have for next month, booked last November, are a lot cheaper than they quoted. When I tried the hertz.com.au website the prices are close to what I have booked now so I'm not sure why the Amex prices are so much higher.

I don't know what the CDP is - the Hertz website doesn't show the CDP anymore and I don't know where I obtained the CDP. I don't actually have an Amex Charge Card. It actually gives 20% off overseas (at least in the US).

Odd. This is normally a no brainer for me, but Hertz is unhappy to rent to you for more than 3 weeks. The insurance is great, windscreen chips and flat tires are all fully covered.

Thanks AdMEL. I've just called Hertz and they've adjusted my three bookings from the 5% Virgin discount I had already used to 20% discount with my Amex Platinum Charge card so that's a good saving :)

Question; why these two?

personally I wouldn't use either in the US.

My most recent rental in California, Alamo class this as a midsize so a bargain.

Very much not true

That's what I was told by Amex last night, that you only get the discount if you book through Amex Travel and I now know this is incorrect, and I posted earlier this morning that I spoke to Hertz and they have adjusted my discount to 20% for the Amex Platinum card discount.

I've called Hertz back and they have given me the CDP for the Amex Platinum discount - 109530 . It gives a 20% discount for USA and Canada, and the lady I spoke to did a couple of dummy bookings for Australia, UK and France and all of those give a 15% discount.

I asked if the discount is only for the Amex Platinum Charge card and she said it just says "Amex Platinum Card AU" so it will probably work with any Amex Platinum card.

This is from my booking confirmation:
Corporate/Association (CDP) Plan: AMEX PLATINUM CARD AU
THE RATE HAS BEEN DISCOUNTED BY 20 %

*Dredging up old thread alert*

Does anybody have recent experience with Europcar in the USA? Most of my Current rentals are through them and I've had no worries, I'd like to keep racking up rental's in the US with them, but this sounds like a complete nightmare
