EU bans all Philippines airlines from Europe

The Philippines yesterday insisted its airlines were safe after the Southeast Asian nation's carriers were banned from flying into the European Union.

"Our aircraft meet the international standards in safety," Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines head Alfonso Cusi said.

The European Commission banned from April 1 all Philippine carriers, as well as those from Sudan, from flying to the 27-nation bloc, according to the European Union mission in Manila.

Flag carrier Philippine Airlines (PAL) said its planes were safe.

"PAL would like to assure the riding public that safety remains the bedrock of PAL's operations," it said in a statement.

PAL last served Europe in 1999 and no other Filipino carrier now flies to Europe.

I dont think its new news , as they have been banned since 1999 anyways.

Has anyone flown PAL - are they still allowed to fly into AU?

I always thught that PAL were ok, but the internal lost-cost airlines had safety issues .

I would love to see the safety ranking that NTSB provides for international airlines .

There's lots of data on their website - you can make your own judgements.....

PAL flies to MEL and SYD IIRC.

I would probably feel safer flying with PR rather than GA!

My choice of flying PR is clouded by rather outdated product (J looks pretty old) as well as lack of alliance. Fares are sometimes quite good value, however, but I have not flown PR for yonks now.

I thought PAL is upgrading all their aircrafts these days? Or they are upgrading it one aircraft per year?!

Yes they have upgraded their short haul to a fleet of (new) A320's (18) and A319's (4). Have recently aquired 777-300ER's (now have 2) and upgraded their long haul 747 product as well to include angled lie flats and AVOD PTV>

Haven't flown them long hual, but have domestically within Philippines, and much safer than driving that's for sure!

Skirt around the edge of JAKARTA (CGK) in a taxi and your statement would change from probably to would!

there's some V dodgy aircraft sitting on the tarmac there - I WILL NOT fly GA in any circumstances... big call considering Jakarta is a reasonably frequent port of call for me...

Mr!
