Hi all (hope this is Q is in the right spot)...

I booked flights GVA/AUH/SYD (one way) in J on EY almost a year ago using VA points... I found tonight while overseas, by complete chance as I was checking another VA booking, that my flight has been moved by 11 hours! I'm incredibly annoyed that I never received a notification of any sort, but that's not the point of my post...

Booked:
GVA/AUH dep 21:50 09/OCT arr 06:15 10/OCT
full day transit in Abu Dhabi/Dubai
AUH/SYD dep 22:00 10/OCT arr 19:10 11/OCT

Flight change is the GVA/AUH flight which now leaves 11:15am, meaning I lose pretty much a full day in Geneva - and I'm only here 4 days (including the day I leave) - to spend with my parents who live here and my son whom they don't see often.

Now, 1) I have called and insisted (left a message for the appropriate team, as they can only review this during Aus biz hours) that my 11:15am flight is moved forward from Wed to Thurs and the connecting flight is pushed back by 1 day (so I still have a day in Abi Dhabi as planned. Seems to be very limited availability in J for AUH/SYD.

2) Should I be requesting a hotel, as my flight now lands in the evening (although there would be a connecting flight that gives me no time to leave the airport).

Trying to understand both what's reasonable and my rights before I call back - never been in this situation where a flight has moved by almost 12 hours and I've had no contact to discuss options.
