Hi,

I am planning on booking a trip to the US later this year and I am weighing up my options - whether to book with Qantas, Velocity (flying Delta / V Australia) or Etihad (using American Airlines and / V Australia).

Logging into the American Airlines Advantage account, the points do seem quite low leaving Australia, as well as the taxes i.e. are less then Qantas and Velocity.

Just wondering if anyone has been successful in redeeming an AA flight with Etihad Guest miles and whether or not there are any additional carrier surcharges incurred (other then the standard AA chargess).

Alternatively, any other suggestions for travelling to the US from Sydney - taking into account points and taxes?
