Hi all,
Just have a question regarding the bonus points for Silver/Gold/Platinum members.

The have that the bonus points refers to the minimum number of Points (base) that can be earned for an eligible activity or transaction by a Red member.

So my partner (red) any myself (silver) flew J (in Z class) SYD-AUH (7506 miles) & AUH-LHR (3409 miles).
This is what I would work it to be then:
Red = 7506 * 1.15 = 8632
Silver = 7506 * 1.15 + 25% = 10,790

But for myself as silver at the time, got the following:
(7506 * 1.15) + (7506 * 25%) = 9,383

and it is the same for the return, but flew back in First and I was Gold by those flights, so the bonus jumps to 50%.

So my question is, what they define the "base" as. They have it as what the minimum number of points that can be earned by a "red" member, so being a silver at the time, I would expect to earn at least 25% more on what my partner earned for the same flight.

Or am I looking at it the wrong way?

Thanks heaps!
Phillippe

This keeps coming up.

Bonus points are based on the number miles flown. Therefore, for international you calculate the number of miles between each port and then calculate your bonus.

The base number is points depends on the class of ticket you purchased which will vary on the number of points earned. This is not based in the calculation of your bonus points.

International trips - calculated on mileage
Domestic trips - calculated on the cost of the ticket (hence bonus points are easily calculated)

IE for 7506 miles at 25% bonus = 1876.5 bonus points

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

From the Etihad section on this page:

"Silver, Gold and Platinum members earn a Points bonus on miles flown in addition to the base Points2 earned.

2 Base Points refers to the minimum number of Points that can be earned for an eligible activity or transaction by a Red member."

That is the part which makes it confusing and question if it is just on the "miles" or on what a "red member" would earn. Which can work out to be two very different amounts.

From the table, the base points is for anyone with membership, red, gold or platinum. This is calculated per mile. (This is no different with domestic flight.)

So If I was any member, on a Economy class fare of "Y" which earns 1 points per mile and the flight was 1000 miles I would get 1000 points.

Silver earn an 25% extra points on mileage. IE if you fly 1000 miles, silver will earn an additional 250 "bonus" points
Gold and platinum earn an 50% extra points on mileage. IE if you fly 1000 miles, silver will earn an additional 500 "bonus" points

....

Red member .... 1000 points + 0 bonus = 1000 points
Silver member .... 1000 points + 250 bonus = 1250 points
Gold / platinum member ... 1000 + 500 bonus = 1500 points

Thanks for that Bagpuss, I totally understand what you are saying.

I guess it is the wording on the Velocity website, which the way I read it, has it the other way.
