Hi everyone. I found that Etihad's C-class fares in their current specials were surprisingly good. MEL-Europe-MEL for circa $6220 inclusive. Cheaper from jetabroad.com.au (I paid $6044 incl for LHR/CDG) and travel.com.au. Only valid until Sunday (18/1) -- I'm posting this cos it hasn't been mentioned but seems to have been around for a few weeks at least.
An attraction for me (though alas I couldn't use it in the end) is that you can fly to NYC for the same price or do an open jaw, eg MEL-NYC-[cross-Atlantic at own expense]-LHR-MEL.
