Looking back on it, it was fine. At the time though I was not enjoying it all that much. An early start, followed by lots of walking around HKG and then a lounge crawl and I was stuffed by the time it came to board the flight. The flight was delayed as well so that didn't help.

Don't get me wrong, I'm glad I did it, but I'm not sure I'd do it again. If you do decide to go on the layover, I've still got HKD50 in my wallet that you can have.

The first time I visited HK was in the Navy aged 18 in 1963. Have been back many times since. The last time we had the long layover we jumped on a sampan for a short cruise, then took in a lunch at one of the Jumbo restaurants at Aberdeen, then back to the airport, a great time had by all. If another 9 hour wait gives us good connections to our destination, then I guess we're in front.

Just got 2 tickets SYD-MEL-AUH-BOM ticketed. J on the 332 and F on the 388 all the way from MEL-AUH-BOM.

60K points + $90 pp

So, does anyone know what's the deal with EY chauffeur drive service on AA-issued award tickets? Are they eligible or not?

Terms and Conditions say they are but when trying to book it online I get a error message saying "ineligible"

Not sure about whether they are supposed to be eligible or if things have recently changed but I have booked F maybe five times (none in the last 12 months) and managed to get the chauffeur on each occasion. From memory sometimes I had to call when it didn't let me book online.

I have a similar experience to Nizar, no problem on three bookings in the past year and several more before then.

Should be able to do it online also. I've booked 4 different cars for 4 passengers on the same flight and their flights were all award bookings (either AA or VA). No issues at all. No transit chauffeur in AUH though.

Friends have made a booking through AA - can't do anything on the EY website even though it has been ticketed. Any attempt to select seats, access the car - all come back with a pop-up 'this booking can't be changed on line'. They've called to reserve seats, guess they might need to call again for a car.

Same thing with all my EY bookings via AA. Can't manage bookings online, must call for seat selection and chauffeur pick up. The reps are usually very nice, will take the details and call back for confirmation (in case of multiple bookings).

I just booked an EY F award with VA and rang to select. Great call centre and I have the seat I want but it's useful to know there's a way to do it online.

As for the chauffeur pickup, that does work online for both ends.

The previous way is now dead. The 'new' way, although only a month old, doesn't work for all people unfortunately - still get the message 'cannot change the booking on line'.

Yep, still getting that message. Oh well, it's not a big hassle to call and do it over the phone.

Even Chauffeur can't be always booked online when reservation was done via AA.

I can't select seats or book a chauffeur for my two bookings using the Etihad website; I'll have to call.
Is there an entitlement to 1 chauffeur per passenger? I've got 9 pax at 6 different locations.

Couldn't select seats on the website nor book a chauffeur while the booking was "on request" with AA. After it ticketed - still can't select seats but was able to book the chauffeur
